Internet Explorer version 3.x is not capable of proxy autoconfiguration, so in order to make it use the proxy, follow these steps (NB these are for a Windows 95 system, but the process is similar on Win 3.x, Win NT, Win 98 and MacOS):

 

  1. Select View/Options/Connection
  2. Select the box marked Connect through a Proxy Server
  3. Click on Settings
  4. Enter proxy.mva.net in the HTTP address, in the port boxes type 8080
  5. Repeat for FTP and Gopher.
  6. The Proxy Settings screen should look like this:

  7. Click OK
